How to keep your computer cleaned and tuned part 1 of 3

This is part 1 of a 3-part series.

Your computer is just like you car is many ways. You might be thinking "that's crazy talk" but it's true! Your car needs to have it's oil changed right? I hope so if not you might just have a billion dollar car on your hands. Your car needs to have almost all of it's fluids changed regularly, filters checked and replaced and mechanical parts checked and replaced at regular intervals. Well your computer is just the same as your vehicle from a maintenance aspect. It needs to have a variety of maintenance from removing junk files to check operating system file integrity.

Please reference the screen shot below for the referenced settings:

Part 1 Junk Files

You have probably heard this a thousand times but it's important!

The best utility to accomplish all three of the above is actually FREE! It's called CCleaner and it literally stands for the crap cleaner because it does just that! It cleans all the crap out of your computer.

Once you have downloaded and installed the CCleaner there are a few tweaks we recommend to really optimize your cleaning.

Tweaks:

Under Internet Explorer

Uncheck - History & Recently Typed URLs

This will allow you to keep you web history and your recent searches and typed URLs (if you want).

Under System

Check -  DNS Cache

This will help speed up internet browsing and ensure you aren't viewing an older version of a website that might be cached on your computer. (your computer caches websites for speed purposes but you don't always get the most up-to-date content from the website)

Under Advanced

Check - Old Prefetch Data

This data is used by you Windows Operating system to help boot up your computer faster and open applications faster. However, over time this data gets old and the Operating System doesn't always replace it. Therefore, we recommend cleaning the prefetch data and you can ignore any warning prompts CCleaner provides about prefetch data.

Now that you are all setup all you have to do about once a month or more often if you surf the web and use you computer a lot is just hit Run Cleaner  and you're done cleaning junk files.
